Over the years, there's been some myths associated with breeding in Ark.
Myth: Unicorns increase the chance of twins or triplets.
Facts: No, they do not. The chance for twins or triplets is fixed. 10% chance for twins and 2% chance for triplets.
Myth: Inbreeding affects the chance of mutations.
Facts: Nope. While this would be a very interesting mechanic, it's not one that Ark takes into account.
Myth: Oviraptors affect breeding cooldowns.
Facts: They do not. An Oviraptor nearby on wander will increase the rate that sterile eggs are laid, but it does not affect the breeding cooldowns at all.
Myth: Points you add after taming when leveling are breedable.
Facts: This has been mentioned a few times already, but no. Points added by leveling an animal do not carry over to offspring when bred.
Myth:Â Mutation counter is always linked to improved stats.
Facts: The mutation counter displays all mutations on a lineage, so if the parents have 2 mutations each, the baby will have 4. Even if that baby didn't inherit the mutated stats.
Myth: You can only get 20 mutations.
Facts: Yes, but also no. Technically, it's 20 per parental/maternal side, so 40. But there is a way to break the counter to achieve more - which is how animals are maxed out to 253/254.
(Covered in more dept in the Mutations page.)
Myth: Color and stat mutations are different.
Facts: When a baby gets a stat mutation, it always rolls a random color in any of the 6 colors regions at random. The color may not show up if it rolls into an unused color region.
